Limitless Vision, Limitless Faith

by Keith Gardner

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."  Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Romans 4:18-21 (NIV)

Faith is a funny thing. It is easy to believe in something when we already expect it. I can believe in the common things that I see all around me. When I look at a circumstance, based on the known physical laws of nature, I can with certainty determine the end results. Depending on where I live, I can pray for rain and truly trust it will; it is an easy thing to believe. Given enough time it is going to rain. However, it is difficult to have faith in a thing that is in opposition to the principles of the physical law.

That was the reality that Abraham faced when he was given the word by God; “You will have a son.” Abraham and Sarah were too old to have children. Abraham heard the word, and took it at face value. He did not waste his time looking at the circumstances. He only looked forward to the promise. God’s word is all true. Whether we are reading in Genesis or Revelation the given word can be believed. Circumstances are irrelevant.

Looking at our present condition gives us a limited view of the possibilities. Our limited vantage point diminishes our faith, rendering the word impossible. The good news is, when we change our vantage point and broaden our view, our possibilities are increased.

So far this has been an argument of logic. But, when we look beyond our circumstances and only at the promise; we are not only changing our vantage point, but are stepping into the heavenly realm where all things are possible. God has set into motion a series of exchanges; needs are exchanged for answers when the promises of His Word are applied. God has given us a word out of the mouth of His own son: “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26 NIV). The application of God’s word moves us from the land of the impossible to the realm of all possibilities.

Father, I pray that we grasp the reality of applied faith, turning impossible problems into hope filled possibilities. Teach us to believe in your promises. Make your Word come alive and strengthen our faith as we apply your promises to our everyday lives.  Lord, I pray that glory and honor will be lifted up to your name through the answers of impossible odds. Train our spiritual eyes to look past our natural view to see the glories of your supply. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
